Alán Aspuru-Guzik recognized by Italy's national research council

Alán Aspuru-Guzik, a in the departments of chemistry and computer science in the Faculty of Arts & Science, has been recognized with a 2024 Istituto di Struttura della Materia Prize (PRISM) awarded by Italy's national research council, the Consiglio Nazionale della Richerche (CNR).

The prize recognizes the contributions of researchers who have achieved outstanding breakthroughs in the areas of materials science as well as basic atomic, molecular and solid-state physics.

Aspuru-Guzik, who holds a Canada 150 Research Chair in Theoretical Chemistry and a Canada CIFAR AI Chair at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, was honoured for his seminal research at the intersection of chemistry, quantum information and machine learning. The director of the Acceleration Consortium, a ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ , he is a world-renowned expert in the development of algorithms and experimental implementations of quantum computers and simulators.

Aspuru-Guzik accepted the prize in a December ceremony, held in Rome, where he spoke about self-driving laboratories and their impact in materials science.
