Kelly Metcalfe awarded the Order of Merit for Nursing Research

Renowned breast cancer researcher Kelly Metcalfe has received the in recognition of her significant impact on the nursing profession and practice.

A professor and associate dean, research and external relations, at the University of Torontos Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, Metcalfe is also a senior scientist at Womens College Hospital Research Institute. She was honoured for her significant contributions to breast cancer research, specifically the prevention and treatment of hereditary breast cancers associated with BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic mutations.

It is an honour to receive this award alongside my fellow nursing colleagues, says Metcalfe. It recognizes not only the importance of breast cancer research, but also the unique role of nurse scientists, and brings greater awareness to the calibre of nursing research in Canada.

Metcalfes current research is focused on assessing an alternate model of care called Direct Rapid Genetic Testing (DRGT) for Canadians at high risk of having a BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation.
