CUPE Local 3902 Unit 3 members ratify agreement with Թϱ

Members of CUPE Local 3902 Unit 3 – who include sessional lecturers, writing instructors, and other short-term teaching staff – have voted to accept the recently negotiated agreement with the University of Toronto.

The agreement, which runs from September 1, 2014 to August 31, 2017, includes wage increases and  enhanced job security among other changes.

Angela Hildyard, vice-president, human resources and equity, said the ratification is a positive development for the University and for students.

“We are happy that we were able to reach an agreement that is responsive but responsible within the current financial context, and one that recognizes the vital role that CUPE 3902 Unit 3 members play in the education of Թϱ students.”

The University is committed to reaching a fair and equitable agreement with members of CUPE 3902 Unit 1, who are currently on strike, Hildyard said.

“We remain in contact with the provincial mediator regarding CUPE Unit 1 and as soon as he thinks there is a basis to return to the bargaining table he will invite the parties to do so. Թϱ is prepared to accept that invitation.”

The university’s vice-president and provost Cheryl Regehr said, “I know that the strike is having an effect on many students and am deeply concerned by this. The University is doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the strike on students.”
