What’s Next: COVID-19 podcast (Ep.18) – Living in a world with coronavirus
Staying home has helped slow community transmission of disease – but until there is a vaccine or natural immunity, Canadians will need to learn to live with COVID-19.
“There are going to be sporadic outbreaks, particularly in settings where people live or work close together,” says Vivek Goel, the University of Toronto’s vice-president, research and innovation, and strategic initiatives, and a professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
“This will be our reality until there is a vaccine or we establish natural immunity, but we cannot stay sheltered in place until that happens.”
In episode 18 of his podcast on the pandemic, Goel – a renowned public health expert and founding head of Public Health Ontario, which was set up in response to the 2003 SARS outbreak – explains why some public health measures are important in the short term, while others will be with us for much longer.
COVID-19: What’s Next? is a bi-weekly podcast created by Goel in collaboration with a University of Toronto Communications team led by producer Lisa Lightbourn.
