University of Toronto exploring Brampton presence

The University of Toronto is in preliminary discussions to explore the possibility of establishing a presence in the City of Brampton.

Recently, the Ontario government announced its intention to invite proposals in 2016 for major capacity expansion to meet the growing higher education needs in the Halton and Peel regions.

As the leading university serving the western GTA through its Mississauga campus, the University of Toronto is well placed to respond to these community needs, said Professor Deep Saini, vice-president and principal of Թϱ Mississauga.

“Any such proposal from Թϱ would first involve broad consultations within the university,” he said. “If a proposal moves forward, it would take full advantage of Թϱ’s existing assets, particularly those at Թϱ Mississauga.”

To ease student access between a Brampton facility and the Mississauga campus, an efficient transit link is critical between the two cities, Saini noted.

“Improved public transportation could offer significant opportunities as consideration proceeds about the establishment of a presence in Brampton.”
